Renewing Your Mind

Before you can reprogram your brain or renew the mind, you will need to understand two things, one how our brains came to be programmed the way they are and two, how that programming has effected us. There are four primary factors that have contributed the most to how are brains are wired. Those 4 factors are the following:

  1. Modeled Behavior
  2. Verbal Conditioning
  3. Impacting Experiences
  4. Genetic Coding

   We will discuss each of these and how they affected us and hold us back.

1. Modeled Behavior

It is reported that 83% of what we learn comes through sight. If that is true than 80 plus percent of the information stored in our brains came through what we have seen. With that said we have all the behaviors influenced by the different people, who have seen act out before us. Some of the people who have modeled their behavior before us were.

  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Grandparents
  • Outside family
  • Friends 
  • Mentors
  • Teachers
  • Fellow classmates
  • Fellow employees
  • The Media
  • Television

 What we have seen has had a big impact on how we think. The way others have acted and behaved in our observation has contributed greatly to how we are programmed mentally. What we observe in the action of others tend to affect and/or influence us. The old adage “monkey see, monkey do” certainly can be applied “human see, human do”. Unfortunately what we have seen from others in the small world we live in has contributed greatly to program our minds and brains to be limited and mediocre. Ask your self this question, “How much of your own behavior is the result of the behavior you have seen in others?”. 

Not all model programming is bad. Many of the things you have seen in life from other was good. If you are completely content with your life there is no need for reprogramming, but if you want more or you want to change and get better you need to reprogram. Some of the modeled programming could summarized in the following ways.

  • You too often see your family or friends unhappy.
  • You too often see people unhappy with their jobs
  • You have not seen too many people you know financial free.
  • You have seen people not keep and value their words.
  • You see people struggle with relationships.

This and other negative behaviors impact us all. We do not have to mimic the behaviors of ours no matter who they were in our lives.

2. Verbal Conditioning

It is reported that 11% of what we have learned in life has come through our hearing. Although what we hear is less than what we see I think what we hear impacts more than the things we see. Sound has a greater impact than sight. Sound effects are greater than visual effects. What we see we perceive, what we hear we understand. For instances, what we saw in our parents and other adults behavior we perceived, but we did not understand. It was not until we started having the right conversations at the right time that we begin to understand why they acted the way they did.

Words are more powerful than sight. Sight is very good for perception, but words are very good for understanding. We learn through both perception and understanding. That why it is said look, listen and learn. Unfortunately, too often what other people tell is misinformation or bad information. 

3. Impacting Experiences

We have all had experiences that were not normal every day. Some of those experiences may be in our subconscious mind. We not even realize how it is affecting our brains. I call these triggers, whenever something comes along and strikes an familiarity to the impacting experiences reactive behaviors are triggered. Some people are afraid to dream as an adult because they did not achieve their dreams as children.

4. Genetic Coding

Some are brain programming is inherited through genes and dna. We think certain ways and do not know why. We could act like a parent or grandparent we never met. 

These are four factors that contribute the most to our mental programming. In the next lesson we will discuss how we have been programmed mainly for failure.
